This project is a multi-office
governmental facility that is resistant to terrorists, as a secure
structure. The project is located in the Historic area of Downtown
Augusta, and will compliment the architectural integrity of the
area. The project is organized as a GSA design-build contract to
furnish 30,000 square feet of leased office space to accommodate
Bankruptcy Court, United States Attorney's Offices, United States
Trustees, and the United States Marshall's offices. The building
consists of a steel frame structure and a parking garage underneath
for secure parking. The site has walkways that connect the existing
Federal Courts Building on East Ford Street to the new Federal Annex
Building on West Ford Street. The Plaza has mature oaks and palmetto
trees with shrubbery defining the walkways and flowerbeds to add
seasonal color and texture. Mailrooms are protected from
contaminated mail by state of the art filtration systems that can
kill any viable anthrax or other microorganism that could be
present. JLA is providing engineering design services to prepare
Civil, Structural, HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical and Landscape
Architecture construction drawings and specifications for use by the
contractor to complete the project.
