Charles J. (Joe) Johnson, P.E. 

Partner/Engineering Project Coordinator

Mr. Johnson co-founded Johnson, Laschober & Associates in 1980. He has contributed to guiding JLA to a firm of prominence known for consistent and value based Professional Services. He is experienced in all aspects of design, cost estimates, project management, and construction inspection, which include government, medical, commercial, educational, and industrial environments.

With extensive experience and education, he coordinates as well as manages projects of all disciplines including civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering.  He is experienced in the preparation of construction plans and documents for multi-disciplined projects.

He offers specialized experience in structural engineering foundations and soil engineering, (geotechnical), pavement design and analysis.  He has been involved in the inspection, analysis, and design of a wide variety of structural systems, including multi-story structures, bridges, rigid frames using steel, cast-in-place concrete, pre-stressed concrete, masonry, and timber.

Mr. Johnson has presented continuing education lectures on steel design, soil mechanics, timber design and ethics.

Richard J. Laschober, P.E. 

Partner/Civil Department Head

Mr. Laschober co-founded Johnson, Laschober and Associates in 1980.  Mr. Laschober has over 25 years of experience that involves extensive project management.

He is experienced in all aspects of civil engineering design, cost estimates, project management, and construction inspection, which include government, medical, commercial, educational, and industrial environments.

He is experienced in the management of many diversified engineering projects involving project development, preliminary engineering studies, design, and inspection ranging in value to $40 million dollars.  He has project design experience on design/bid, design/build, and fast-track construction for public and private sector projects.  His specialized experience is in the areas of industrial structures, hydraulics, hydrology, storm water management, water supply and distribution, and waste- water treatment. He is also experienced in the utilization of in-house computer techniques for optimizing design of pressurized pipe networks, open channel flow systems and reservoirs.

Donald L. Thorstad, P.E. 

Partner/Structural Department Head

Mr. Thorstad has been the Structural Department Head at Johnson, Laschober & Associates since joining the company in 1989.  He has 13 years of experience with other firms, including four years as principal of his own.

Mr. Thorstad is experienced in all aspects of structural engineering design, cost estimates, project management, and construction inspection, his project experience includes medical, commercial, government, educational, and industrial environments. In addition, he has performed numerous investigations and written reports on structural problems and failures.

 

Mr. Thorstad's specialized experience includes inspections, analysis and design of a wide variety of structural systems.  As Structural Department Head, he is responsible for quality control review including the performance of coordination checks of structural drawings and specifications with other disciplines involved in the project.

Mark Lorah, P.E. 

Partner/Structural Engineer

Mr. Lorah has over seventeen (17) years of professional experience as a Structural Engineer.  He is skilled in the design of new multi-story steel and concrete structures, and the modification/rehabilitation of existing.  He has specialized experience for Historic Preservation/Renovation projects and is familiar with the state and county guidelines for renovations on such projects.

 

Mr. Lorah has performed as project manager on various projects and has helped in determining cost reductions for larger governmental projects.  He is experienced in overseeing and checking work performed by other design professionals.

William J. Farmer, P.E. 

Partner/Mechanical Department Head

Mr. Farmer has been the Mechanical Department Head at Johnson, Laschober & Associates since joining the firm in 1992.  He also has 25 years of experience with other firms.

As project manager, he is responsible for the production of detailed mechanical design, specifications, cost estimating, quality control, and project management of building mechanical systems, including HVAC and plumbing systems, chemical and industrial process piping, and fire protection systems.

Mr. Farmer is also responsible for quality control review including coordination check of mechanical drawings and specifications with other disciplines.  His project experience includes commercial, institutional, industrial, government, educational, healthcare facilities and public housing.

Mr. Farmer is a factory certified designer for  “City Multi” variable refrigerant flow zoning systems for split-system heat pumps.

Ralph B. Salzmann, P.E. 

Partner/Electrical Department Head

Mr. Salzmann has been a member of the Electrical Department at Johnson, Laschober & Associates since 1992.  He has extensive experience in design of industrial, medical, commercial, institutional and educational electrical projects.  He has project experience in power distribution, indoor and outdoor lighting, communication, instrumentation, control systems, and security lighting.  He also has specialized experience in the programming of samplers and in the area of computer systems, local area networks, computer programs, and programmable control systems.

He provided project management services to Procter & Gamble Manufacturing Company for five years.  He oversaw the design and construction phases of projects ranging from twenty thousand dollars to eight million dollars.  In addition, he is experienced in providing resident inspection for the Savannah River Plant.

Mr. Salzmann offers experience in computer systems and local area networks.

Darren R. Prickett, RLA 

Partner/Landscape Architecture Department Head

Mr. Prickett has extensive experience in residential and commercial site planning.  A designer with a Bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture, Mr. Prickett has master planned and designed multiple residential and commercial offices.  He has extensive knowledge of many unique techniques and materials used in similar landscape projects.

 

He has a strong working knowledge of plants and other landscape materials commonly used in the Southeast, exhibits a strong understanding of the identification and use of historically significant and indigenous plants and other materials used in the restoration and reclamation of wetlands, stream banks, eroded embankments and other sensitive landscapes.

Mr. Prickett has developed master plans and construction documents for public and private parks, retreats, urban plazas and office complexes.  He has designed residential and commercial landscape plans, as well as developed associated cost estimates, details and plant lists.  He has designed tree preservation and erosion control plans for grading and development permits.

Mr. Prickett’s diverse experience also includes landscape maintenance programs, developing sanitary sewer and storm drainage plans, detention and retention basin design, preparing rezoning applications, obtaining development permits, and drafting residential and commercial construction plans.

He had five years of professional experience prior to joining Johnson, Laschober and Associates in 1997.
